Book Description
Rama and her family, are forced to flee their once-peaceful village to escape the ravages of the civil war raging ever closer to their home With only what they can carry on their backs, Rama and her mother, father, grandfather and brother, Sami, set out to walk to freedom in Europe. This unique picture book was inspired by the stone artwork of Syrian artist Nizar Ali Badr, discovered by chance by Canadian children’s writer Margriet Ruurs. The author was immediately impressed by the strong narrative quality of Mr. Badr’s work, and, using many of Mr. Badr’s already-created pieces, she set out to create a story about the Syrian refugee crisis. Orca Book Publishers is pleased to offer this book as a dual-language (English and Arabic) edition.

Book Description
Widely regarded as the finest poet of his generation, Seamus Heaney is the subject of numerous critical studies; but no book-length portrait has appeared until now. Through his own lively and eloquent reminiscences, Stepping Stones retraces the poet's steps from his early works, through to his receipt of the 1995 Nobel Prize for Literature and his post-Nobel life. It is supplemented with a large number of photographs, many from the Heaney family album and published here for the first time. In response to firm but subtle questioning from Dennis O'Driscoll, Seamus Heaney sheds a personal light on his work (poems, essays, translations, plays) and on the artistic and ethical challenges he faced, providing an original, diverting and absorbing store of reflections, opinions and recollections.

Book Description
Everyday in Europe, people associated with Roma or Traveller communities are exposed to acts of discrimination and exclusion on a scale that has stopped shocking people and institutions. Too often, it is only when lives are claimed that we wake up to the persistence of realities that have no place in any democratic society. Antigypsyism is a term used to refer to the multiple forms of biases, prejudice and stereotype that motivate the everyday discriminatory behaviour of institutions and many individuals towards Roma. Antigypsyism is a form of racial discrimination. Most antigypsyism acts are illegal and contrary to human rights, even when they are not prosecuted, and even if they are widespread and often ignored or tolerated. Antigypsyism undermines the moral fabric of societies. Democracy and human rights cannot take root where discrimination is institutionalised, tolerated or conveniently ignored. Education plays a central role in combating and overcoming antigypsyism because the result of centuries of prejudice cannot be fought by laws and courts alone. Human rights education – learning for, through and about human rights – provides an ideal approach to raising awareness about antigypsyism and promoting a culture of universal human rights. This manual was produced within the Roma Youth Action Plan of the Council of Europe to provide teachers, trainers and facilitators of non-formal education processes with essential information and methodological tools to address antigypsyism with young people of all ages and in any social-cultural setting. It is equally suitable for work with groups of non-Roma, Roma only, or mixed groups. Combating antigypsyism is a task for all of us; learning about it is a necessary starting point. As human beings we have the capability to discriminate and impose prejudice upon others. Fortunately, we are also capable to learn and change. Mirrors is a great help to help us notice this, correct distorted views and to recognise ourselves in the eyes of others.

Book Description
There will come a time, a moment, whether in this lifetime or in another, when the soul will reach a stage when it needs to know more. It will no longer be satisfied with ambling along. It wants to get hold of its destiny, face it, and see where it is going, what it has achieved, and what other lessons are needed And then the soul, of its own volition, will become the captain of its ship, it will guide its own destiny, it will face the turbulent seas and storms and steer it through to calmer waters. This book offers a basic knowledge of spirituality. It answers questions that have been presented to the author over many years of facilitating workshops, giving talks, and seminars both in the UK and internationally. It also gives us guidance in how to find the inner self. Here is a quote from the book: As we continue the path and we start stripping off the layers that bind us, we will notice a different us emerging. That new person may be a little unfamiliar, a little uncertain, but at least its a more honest person. Gradually we get to know this person better, and as our confidence builds up, we will find an inner surge of strength and fortitude to carry on even more strongly in our search. This inner person is the real usthe beautiful light that has been hidden behind the scars, the jewel that has been polished by all the experiences of our struggles and battles, the rose that has been waiting to blossom by all the fruits of our endeavours, the one true being who is one with the universe.
